2010 Photographic Competition Rules
Country Life invites amateur photographers and scholars under the age of 19 to submit three of their photographs for the monthly competition for judging by Derek and Norma Pearman.
1. Entry
There are three ways to enter the competition: post, website and email.
Each entry must include your contact details (phone number, email and postal address), camera details (model and make of camera, film stock and lens) and settings (lens focal length, shutter speed, aperture (f-stop) and whether a beanbag, tripod, filter, polariser, or other accessory was used), location (a description of where and at what time of day the picture was taken), scholar info where necessary (school contact details, scholars' age and grade) and a hi-res image/quality print.
2. Images
All photographs must be taken in the countryside in South Africa or in our border countries. Digital images and lab prints/slides are acceptable. Digital entries must be hi-res (300dpi by 15cm wide) and prints must be done on photographic paper by a lab (any size is acceptable). Low-res images and low-quality prints will be disqualified.
3. Postal
Send disc, print or slide with all the relevant information in a suitable envelope to Country Life Image Club, P O Box 32083, Mobeni 4060.
4. Website
Visit www.countrylife.co.za and click on the Image Club Entry button on the home page, fill in the form, upload the image and submit. Incomplete entries will be disqualified.
5. Email
Send a hi-res photo (size must be less then 4MB) with all the relevant information to imageclub@dbn.caxton.co.za.
6. Returns
All returns are done by registered mail so if you would like your print, slide or disc returned please include a SASE with enough postage to cover registered post return.
7. Digital Photography
Any manipulation or modification to the original image is limited to minor retouching, resizing, flipping, cropping, selective lightening or darkening and restoration of the original colour of a scene. The faithful representation of a natural form, behaviour or phenomenon must be maintained. Manipulation or modification must not alter the content of the original scene. No pictures taken under controlled conditionos will be accepted.
8. Prizes
Winners are chosen on the merit of their photographs. Prizes will only be delivered to addresses within South Africa. From March to August the First Prize is a Canon Powershot SX 120 IS digital camera valued at R3 000, Second Prize is a Canon Ixus 95 digital camera valued at R2 000, Third Prize is a Canon SELPHY CP 780 compact photo printer valued at R1 500, and Fourth Prize/Youth Prize is a Canon A480 digital camera valued at R1 200.
9. Country Life accepts no responsibility for lost or damaged photographs. We do not acknowledge receipt of photographs and return only those submitted with SASE.
10. Country Life reserves the right to use the images entered into the Image Club competition, without payment but credited to the photographer, in future issues and on the website.
11. This competition is not open to employees of Caxton Magazines, Canon or their families.
