STITCH GLOSSARY
KNITTING
Casting on
One needle cast on
1 Make a slip knot. Allow enough yarn for the number of stitches plus 15cm extra. Hold the needle in your right hand and the yarn between your index and little fingers of your left hand.
2 Slip your thumb and left forefinger between the strands. Make sure that the working strand is at the front and the strand from the skein at the back.
3 Bring your thumb up and straighten the other fingers. Keep the yarn between your ring and little fingers.
4 Take the needle under the yarn and up towards the yarn on your left forefinger.
5 Put the point of the needle behind the yarn on your forefinger. Pull the needle and yarn through the loop on your thumb to make a stitch. Slip the stitch from your thumb to secure the stitch on the needle. Repeat steps according to the illustration for required number of stitches.
Note: Reverse instructions if you are left-handed.
Casting on stitches with the needle method
Put a slip knot onto the left needle. This is your first stitch. Take the second needle through the first stitch and loop the yarn around the point. Pull the yarn through the stitch and slip it onto the first needle. Put the right needle through the stitch, see illustration, and continue as described above.
Note: Reverse instructions if you are left-handed.
Casting off
Knit or purl two stitches. Take the first stitch over the second stitch and continue in this way until there is only one stitch left. Cut the yarn and pull through the last stitch.

Pass slip stitch over(psso)
Insert the right needle into the stitch on the left needle. Do not knit (or purl), but slip it onto the right-hand needle. Knit (or purl) the next stitch and lift the slipped stitch over the one just worked.
